Located on Tucson’s Eastside, the museum spans 25,000 square feet and features rotating special exhibitions, including the recent Citizen/Enemy: Japanese American Incarceration Camps, which features historic documents, installations, and large-scale images by noted photographers Dorothea Lange and Russell Lee. TDAM will host the final showcase and publication launch.
Kizuna Project (KP)
Kizuna Project was formed in the spring of 2024 to document the history of Tucson’s Japanese community through oral histories and the artifacts that accompany them from World War II to the present. Post-war stories focus on efforts to start businesses and Japanese cultural organizations in Tucson. KP will support our project by directly participating in our program, connecting our team with additional community experts, and promoting our events with their networks.
Southern Arizona Japanese Cultural Coalition (SAJCC)
Southern Arizona Japanese Cultural Coalition (SAJCC) was founded in 2012 to unify those involved in Japanese culture in Tucson and Southern Arizona. The SAJCC promotes language, history, arts, and cultural activities, including New Year’s Mochitsuki (mochi pounding) celebrations. SAJCC will participate directly in our project by connecting with community experts and promoting events to networks.
